The Dean and Associate Deans provide academic leadership for program development, planning, and decision making in the Graduate Division. Graduate Deans work directly with Executive Staff (Directors) within UCLA’s Graduate Division to oversee admissions, academic services, financial support, external relations, budgets, and information technology. The Graduate Deans are available for assistance if students cannot solve problems within their departments.
Dean Ettner oversees the Graduate Division and is an ex officio member of the Graduate Council.
Dean Lux has major responsibility for issues related to academic services; visiting graduate researchers; post-doctoral scholars; international agreements; and labor relations. She serves as the co-Principal Investigator on the NSF Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) grant and as the liaison to the Graduate Council Committee on Self-Supporting Graduate Professional Degree Programs, Subcommittee on Fellowships and Assistantships and Subcommittee on Degree Programs.
Dean Arah has major responsibility for outreach, diversity and inclusion initiatives; institutional research; and academic and admissions policy. He serves as the Graduate Division’s Equity Advisor and as the liaison to the Graduate Council’s Subcommittee on Graduate Student/Postdoctoral Scholar Well-Being and the Mentoring and Evaluation of Graduate Academic Progress (MEGAP) Implementation Workgroup.
