In addition to the University's minimum requirements and those listed above, all applicants are expected to submit the departmental application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service [SOPHAS] and a statement of purpose. MS: Admission requirements for the M.S. in Health Policy and Management are the same as for the M.P.H.. Ph.D.: A master's degree in public health, or other appropriate graduate degree in a related field, with a grade-point average of at least 3.5 for graduate studies, is recommended. Although not required, if applicants believe that their performance on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) taken within the last five years will help their application, they may opt to submit the scores. Three letters of recommendation (at least two should be from professors; one may be from an employer) that address past performance and potential as a doctoral student in public health and, when possible, describe potential for doctoral work in health policy or healthcare management. Applicants also must submit a resume/CV. Although not required for admission, work experience in the field is viewed favorably. Submit a clear statement of purpose that outlines goals and career objectives as they relate to the PhD program in HPM at UCLA. This statement should include: description of research experience, discussion of current substantive interests in health policy or healthcare management, brief description of a research project or topic of interest, statement of career goals, justification for seeking doctoral training specifically in health policy and management, and an overall sense of who the applicant is as an individual. Applicants should also submit an example of published or written work, such as a master's thesis, journal article, or research paper (analytic or empirical works preferred). |
