In addition to the University's minimum requirements and those listed above, all applicants are expected to submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions in which the applicant was enrolled, a statement of purpose, a personal history statement, and a writing sample (e.g., a course paper or a professional report). For the Master of Social Science Program:
The statement of purpose should explain your interest in pursuing the Master of Social Science degree, your main areas of research interest, and what you plan to do after the degree. The statement should also discuss previous academic training as well as any relevant work experience and should not exceed three double-spaced pages (approximately 750 words). For the Social Medicine Specialization Applicants:
In the statement of purpose, applicants seeking the Social Medicine specialization should clearly state their interest in the specialization. The statement should describe why they want to pursue the specialization by discussing interests in such topics as social science approaches to physical and psychological wellbeing, medicine, inequality, social policy, community research, and structural determinants of health and illness.
For the Personal History Statement:
The personal history statement is intended as a supplement to the statement of purpose. This should describe the relevant aspects of your background, accomplishments, and life experiences you wish the ducational, personal, cultural, economic, or social experiences, challenges or opportunities relevant to your academic goals. In addition, describe any aspects of your personal background, accomplishments, or achievements that will allow the committee to evaluate your contributions to the University's mission and values (approximately 750 words). For the Writing Sample:
Examples of the writing sample include course papers or a professional report. |
