In addition to the University's minimum requirements, all applicants are expected to submit a statement of purpose, and a paper or an article, preferably on topics related to Asian or Pacific Islander Americans. Applicants are also expected to present evidence of their previous interest in Asian American Studies, such as courses taken at the undergraduate level, research papers written independently or for related classes, or work experience in an Asian or Pacific Islander American community. Asian American Studies, M.A. /Public Health, M.P.H. The Asian American Studies Department and the Department of Community Health Sciences in the School of Public Health offer a concurrent degree program whereby students may pursue the M.A. in Asian American Studies and the Master of Public Health at the same time. Students must complete the program requirements for both degrees. The review process is conducted separately by each department, but the same statement of purpose may be submitted to each. Applicants interested in this concurrent program should contact the Asian American Studies Department and the Community Health Sciences Department in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Asian American Studies, M.A./Social Welfare, M.S.W. The Asian American Studies Department and the Department of Social Welfare in the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and Social Research offer a concurrent program whereby students may pursue the M.A. in Asian American Studies and the Master of Social Welfare at the same time.
