Description: UCLA’s California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) has an exciting and unique opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher. We are seeking highly qualified applicants to help guide a cutting-edge research project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense on bacterial pathogenesis, ecology and the environmental microbiome. Working with the hypothesis that ecological interactions between species provide selection for “accidental pathogenesis” in humans, you will help develop approaches for identifying and characterizing environments that are known or suspected to host the select agent bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei. The Appointee will have the opportunity to work with the field’s top experts, and receive training for research on biodefense-related pathogens (BSL-3). An additional responsibility will be to liaise with international partners to coordinate site visits for environmental field studies.
Requirements: Candidates should be fluent in English and have a Doctoral degree with relevant experience in molecular biology, microbiology and bioinformatics. Unrestricted visa status is essential, and travel to collaborating institutions in southeast Asia and Australia is a significant part of the position. Experience in environmental microbiology would be helpful. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a full benefit package.
Interested candidates should send as CV, contact information for three references and a brief statement of qualifications applicable to this opportunity.
