American Heart Association, Western States Affiliate, Predoctoral Fellowships

Description   The American Heart Association (AHA) supports up to 3 years of doctoral dissertation projects which broadly relate to cardiovascular function and disease. Research will also focus on stroke or related clinical, basic science, and public health problems. A sponsor will preside over the student to work on independent research on a full-time basis. Fellows will carry out a proposal with significance and innovation. 
Award Amount   Yearly stipend of $25,000, plus $1,000 for health insurance and $2,000 for project support, publications, supplies, and equipment. Award duration for 2 years, total award amount: $50,000. Renewable for a 3rd year. 
Disciplines   Life Sciences. Social Sciences. School of Engineering. Health Sciences. School of Public Health. Research broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts. 
Academic Level   Working on Doctoral Dissertation.  
Citizenship   U.S. citizens and residents. Also open to holders of the following citizenship designations: E-3, F-1, J-1, H1-B, TN, O-1, G-4. 
Requirements   At the time of application, the applicant must be a post baccalaureate, predoctoral M.D., Ph.D., D.O., D.V.M. (or equivalent) student who seeks research training with a sponsor/mentor prior to embarking on a research career. Must be a full-time student working towards his/her degree. Must be enrolled in any accredited institution in California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah or Washington state.
